Wed: Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have married in a surprise ceremony in Palo Alto

Mr Zuckerberg and 27-year-old Priscilla Chan tied the knot at a small ceremony at his home in Palo Alto, California, capping a busy week for the couple.

The tech mogul took his company public in one of the most anticipated stock offerings in Wall Street history on Friday, which saw the social network valued at $104billion.

And Ms Chan graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on Monday, the same day Mr Zuckerberg turned 28.

The couple met at Harvard and have been together for more than nine years.

A source at the wedding said Mr Zuckerberg designed the ring featuring ‘a very simple ruby’.

The ceremony took place in Mr Zuckerberg’s backyard before fewer than 100 guests, including Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg.

The guests all thought they were coming to celebrate Ms Chan’s graduation but were told after they arrived that the event was in fact a wedding.

‘Everybody was shocked,’ the source said.

Rather than his trademark hoodie, Mr Zuckerberg wore a suit for the ceremony, while his bride wore a traditional wedding dress.

Food was served family-style and included dishes from the couple’s favorite Palo Alto sushi restaurant.

The two had been planning the marriage for months but were waiting until Ms Chan had graduated to hold the wedding, according to the source.

The timing was not tied to the IPO, he added, since the date the company planned to go public was a ‘moving target’.

Despite his strong advocacy of online openness and sharing, and scant regard for web users’ desire for privacy, Mr Zuckerberg has long been secretive about his own personal life.

It was not even widely known that the Facebook founder was engaged to Ms Chan, despite the length of their relationship.

Even after Friday’s IPO, Mr Zuckerberg remains Facebook’s single largest shareholder, with 503.6million shares.

And he controls the company with 56 per cent of its voting stock.

The site, which was born in a dorm room eight years ago, has grown into a worldwide network of almost a billion people.

Mr Zuckerberg founded Facebook at Harvard in 2004, in a saga which would later become the basis for Oscar-winning film The Social Network.

He was named as Time’s Person of the Year in 2010, aged just 26.

Mr Zuckerberg grew up in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

The star, known as the Queen of Disco, passed away in Florida, according to TMZ.
Sources say she had attempted to keep the extent of her illness from fans and was recently trying to finish up her latest album.

The news has not yet been confirmed by her spokesperson.

Summers, real name LaDonna Gaines, is best know for her string of 70s hits, including I Feel Love, Last Dance and Bad Girls.

She was a five-time Grammy Award winner and the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the US Billboard chart.

She also charted four number-one singles in the United States within a thirteen-month period.

Summers married actor Helmuth Sommer in 1973 before giving birth to the couple’s daughter Mimi later that year.

Although the marriage crumbled in 1975, she kept an altered version of her ex’s surname to use as her stage name. She married Brooklyn Dreams musician Bruce Sudano in 1980 and the couple went on to have two daughters, Brooklyn, born in 1981 and Amanda the following year.

The You Da One hitmaker tweeted a picture of herself attached to an IV drip in a hospital.

She was suffering from ‘exhaustion and dehydration’, according to MediaTakeOut.

However, after a brief stay in the undisclosed medical center, she was discharged and allowed to fly back to her home in Los Angeles, arriving in California earlier this morning.

It comes just days after the 24-year-old singer pulled out of a Saturday Night Live rehearsal due to her tiredness.

The star has certainly been burning the candle at both ends in recent months and the new issue of America’s Star magazine claims she is ‘spiraling out of control’.

‘Rihanna loves to party but this past month she’s gotten really out of control,’ an insider tells the publication.

‘She’s been drinking almost everyday and talking about smoking weed a lot too.’

Her wild nights out have included a late visit to a strip club in Queens, New York, on May 2 where she was seen throwing money at female performers.

‘Everyone is telling her to slow down and think about therapy, or even rehab,’ the source continues.

But Rihanna has always been proud of her Good Girl Gone Bad reputation.

With more than 1.5 million votes counted from Tuesday’s referendum, supporters of the ban led opponents by a margin of 61% to 39%, according to figures from the State Board of Elections. Its backers prepared to celebrate by serving wedding cake to their supporters in a Raleigh ballroom.

Tami Fitzgerald, the head of Vote for Marriage NC, said she had been confident that “the people of North Carolina would rise up and vote to keep the opposition from redefining traditional marriage.

“We are not anti-gay, we are pro-marriage,” she said. “And the point — the whole point — is simply that you don’t rewrite the nature of God’s design for marriage based on the demands of a group of adults.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for one of the groups opposing the amendment told CNN, “The numbers are not looking the way we hope they would look.”

“We have been down in the polls, and this certainly is not coming as a surprise,” said Paul Guequierre, of the Coalition to Protect North Carolina Families. “But it is certainly not what we had hoped for.”

The amendment would alter North Carolina’s constitution to say that “marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.” Supporters argued that the amendment was needed to stop those trying to redefine marriage and ward off possible future actions of “activist judges.”

The animal has been euthanized and the carcass is being being held under state authority at a rendering facility in California and will be destroyed, officials said.

Though eating contaminated meat or some other animal products from cattle with BSE is thought to be the cause of a fatal brain disease (variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) in humans, the cow was never presented for slaughter. Milk does not transmit BSE.

BSE is usually transmitted between cows through the practice of recycling bovine carcasses for meat and bone meal protein, which is fed back to other cattle. In this case, the USDA reports that it was an atypical, rare form of BSE not likely carried by contaminated feed.

In humans, symptoms of vCJD involve psychiatric symptoms and behavioral changes, movement deficits, memory disturbances, and cognitive impairments.

The USDA says it remains confident in the health of the national herd and the safety of beef and dairy products and that as the investigation progresses, the group will continue to communicate findings with the public.

The Centers for Disease Control reports that the chance of contracting mad cow disease, even after consuming contaminated products, is less than one in 10 billion, if at all. California Department of Public Health Director and Public Health Officer Dr. Ron Chapman issued a statement today saying that residents do not need to take any specific precautions.

Unlike most other meat-borne illnesses such as E. coli bacteria, cooking does not kill mad cow disease. Consumers who do wish to exercise extra caution can follow the advice presented by the Web-based consumer advocacy group Consumeraffairs.com, which advises the avoidance of brains, neck bones and beef cheeks, bone marrow and cuts of beef that are sold on the bone. The group also says to choose boneless cuts of meat, and for ground beef, choose only meat that is ground on-site in the store. Pets such as cats and dogs are not at risk for the disease.

Thanks to a well-documented flaw that Apple didn’t patch for three months, a nasty piece of malware called Mac Flashback seems to have infected nearly 600,000 Macs worldwide (according to Russian security firm Dr. Web).

Here are three things you need to do today:
— Check to see whether your Mac is infected by Mac Flashback. The social-networking news site Mashable has created a script that will do so for you. The instructions are on the Mashable website.

If the script does find an infection, which can be at either or both of two different places in the Mac OS X file system, removal is a bit complicated.

You’ll have to go into the Terminal app and take the Mac Flashback removal steps detailed by Finnish security firm F-Secure.

— Update OS X with the latest security patches from Apple. Apple patched OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and OS X Lion earlier this week, but it just updated the patch for Lion Thursday, April 5.

If you’re on a PowerPC-chip-based Mac running OS X 10.5 Leopard, Apple no longer cares about you (see below).

— Take a deep breath and say to yourself, “Steve Jobs is dead and my Mac is not immune to malware.” Then install a solid anti-virus product. Today, right now, ASAP.

The weak anti-virus software that Apple bundles into OS X 10.7 Lion doesn’t cut it, and neither will the half-hearted Gatekeeper feature in the upcoming OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Additionally, there are two things you probably should do:

— Disable the Java run-time engine, if you’re not using it.

Java, the platform-independent environment used to run Web apps and perform other tasks, has too many flaws to justify its use unless it’s absolutely necessary. (Apple tacitly acknowledged this when it didn’t bundle Java into OS X 10.7 Lion.) Open the Java Preferences utility in Mac OS X, uncheck all selections and reboot.

Unfortunately, some software, such as the applications in Adobe’s Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, requires that Java be enabled.

In that case, you’ll just have to trust Apple once more, even though it was remarkably late about riding to the rescue in this instance. The Java flaw that Mac Flashback exploited was patched two months ago for Windows and Linux.

— If you’re still using a PowerPC Mac, it’s time to move on.

Apple’s excellent hardware means there are millions of perfectly good PowerPC machines still out there and running well, some of them built as recently as 2006. But Apple no longer supports or releases security patches for them. It wants you to upgrade, and now you don’t have a choice in the matter.

Ada Sharpton, 87, passed away in Dothan, Alabama at about 6:15am. Reverend Sharpton posted the following:

“My mother, Ada Sharpton passed in the early hours of this morning. She was my all. I hope God will give her now, PEACE. I love you, Mom.”

Longtime Sharpton spokesperson Rachel Noerdlinger says mother Sharpton fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Noerdlinger also said Sharpton will fly to Alabama to make arrangements for his mother’s funeral after attending a rally Thursday evening in Sanford, Fla., for Trayvon Martin.

Rev. Sharpton learned of his mother’s death while boarding the flight to Florida Thursday morning, according to Noerdlinger. Sharpton heads the National Action Network, a civil rights organization based in New York City and anchors the 6pm national newscast on MSNBC and a daily syndicated radio talk show.

The actor got a bit more serious when prodded about his issue with the Sudanese government, noting, “Listen, what we’ve been trying to achieve today is we’re trying to bring attention to an ongoing emergency. Our job right now is to try to bring attention to it, and one of those ways was, apparently, get arrested.”

The “”Descendants” actor was taken into police custody alongside his journalist father Nick Clooney, as well as Martin Luther King III, NAACP President Ben Jealous, Rep. Jim McGovern, Rep. Jim Moran and former Rep. Tom Andrews.

Prior to his arrest, Clooney spoke out against the country’s treatment towards it’s people, telling the crowd, “the (Sudanese) government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them, and stop starving them.”
