Guests were alerted about the secret show late Thursday evening. The location wasn’t even announced — you had to call a special number to find out the address!
It was a classy affair as all guests had to dress up — ladies in dresses and gentlemen in hard bottoms and a suit jacket. No exceptions. (Kanye’s been initiating a fashion movement dubbed “Rosewood,” which means wearing sharply tailored suits all day.)
Was all the fuss worth it? Hell yeah!
The 33-year-old hip-hop superstar kicked off the show around 1:30AM and proceeded to perform stripped-down renditions of hits including “Power”, “Good Life”, and a freestyle to “Say You Will.” Check it out below!
John Legend provided backing vocals and piano accompaniment. Kid Cudi, Mr. Hudson, music video director Anthony Mandler, and Estelle — who hopped on stage for an impromptu performance of “American Boy” — were also in attendance.
“Tonight was absolutely magical,” Estelle tweeted.
“GOOD music is most definitely in the building, New York City,” John added. “It’s gonna be a night to remember.”
“Hell of a night, hell of a life,” Kanye tweeted the morning after.
