Shy: Before we get started, tell us a little about yourself.

Thank you for having me. I’m happy to connect with Shy Magazine and share a bit more about myself. I’m a passionate and driven graduate student at Johns Hopkins University and I model part-time. I’m in my last year of completing a dual Masters in Public Policy and Public Administration and hope to use this degree to continue my work as a humanitarian. I worked at The World Bank as an environmental consultant in 2016 and worked on poverty alleviation and disaster risk management in Lesotho, which was a monumental growth experience for me, both emotionally and mentally. I realized the strength that we are all capable of tapping into, and just how much of an impact you can have on the life of one individual.

I’m a strong believer in self-discovery and I believe it’s critical to formulate a healthy relationship with yourself, because only then are you truly capable of acting from a perspective of honoring and loving others authentically. I’m at a stage in my life where I’m assessing my own beliefs and motivations for certain things, because introspection allows me to reflect and grow. I embrace challenges because I see them as growth experiences and lessons. I love meeting people from different walks of life because I can often see pieces of myself within them, reflecting back at me. It makes relating to people enjoyable and exciting because you start seeing just how similar we all are at our core.

Shy: Your father is French and your mother is from Zambia. How connected are you to these cultures and what is something you love about either or both?

I love both cultures in different ways and can appreciate the nuances of each regarding food, music, and customs. For example, I love the cheese and wine culture that France is well known for, and in Zambia, I love the tradition of dance and Zambian music. Zambian singers often have an incredible depth to their voices and when I listen to the beat and music, I can feel an incredible amount of energy in the voices and beats; it’s almost like I’m being placed right there as they perform. French was my first language; I learned English when I was 5 years old. I often visit France to visit my dad’s side of the family, but am hoping to make a trip to visit more of my mother’s side in Zambia. I’m long overdue for a trip to Zambia.

Shy: Could you give a little on your educational background?

I attended Gettysburg College and completed an undergraduate degree in environmental science with a minor in Women and Gender studies. I did an overseas academic program in England at Lancaster University which, was a fantastic experience because I loved being able to live in London for a portion of this study experience. Living in Northern England was also great, but a lot less warm. Ha! I am now at Johns Hopkins University completing an MPP/MPA hybrid degree.

Shy: You’ve expressed a passion for singing, and in 2009 you performed for US President Barack Obama and collaborated with a host of other stars. Do you have any plans to pursue a music career?

That’s a question I ask myself almost every day. I absolutely love singing. Seriously, it is perhaps my top favorite passion. I love singing and dancing. I’m also a songwriter and write out songs whenever I feel low or want to express whatever is going on in my inner world. I remember being a child and whenever I got upset, I wouldn’t cry or scream, but I would lock myself in my closet with a tape recorder and notepad just writing out and singing about my feelings through handwritten songs.

I have recorded a few songs in the studio with friends and will surely set up a SoundCloud in the very near future so that I can share that passion with whoever is interested.

Shy: You won the Meghan Markle lookalike contest. How did you find out about the contest and what was the process like to enter?

The contest was held by a site called beautifulpeople.com and I got an email about the contest asking to submit photos if you resemble Meghan Markle. When I inquired about it, they asked me to submit a few high-resolution headshots in addition to my occupation and location, as well as my favorite store for a voucher. I thought I would humor myself and submit it because I was always being told I looked like Meghan Markle. I hadn’t really expected much to come from it until I received an email a few weeks later letting me know I was short-listed for the winning title, and then won.

Shy: Did you ever imagine yourself winning such competition?

I think it is an entertaining way to make light of two people that look alike. I wasn’t aware of just how much of a resemblance I had to her until Alison Jackson had picked my photo. In a sense, it legitimized what other people had been saying to me and forced me to really analyze it myself.

Shy: Are you a fan of Meghan Markle?

I definitely believe she is a great actress.

Shy: Now that you are the most look like Meghan Markle out there, how do you feel about this new development?

I don’t feel any different, to be honest. I appreciate the showering of support and comments from friends, family, and perfect strangers, but internally I do not feel much different. I’m hopeful for any opportunities within entertainment or work.

Shy: Meghan Markle is engaged to Prince Harry. Would you like to swap places with her?

I honestly wish her the best in the marriage and they do make a unique and lovely union. I would not wish to swap places with her because there is someone out there for each of us. My prince charming is also out there somewhere. In due time, God will bring him into my life.

Shy: A few articles have said there’s money to be made in capitalizing on your lookalike status, and that this would be even more lucrative were you to find a Prince Harry lookalike. Have there been any offers on the table, and are there any princes on the horizon?

As of now, there have been no offers related to lookalike work, but I am open to considering it most definitely.

Shy: Would you call yourself a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?

Yes, I would. I love photography and the idea of bringing life to photos. I see myself perhaps doing commercials and modeling clothing for fashion designers and in fashion catalogs.

Shy: How do you communicate with the people around you, and what is your approach to new experiences?

I consider myself to have a very open and worldly kind of mindset. I can strike up hours of conversation with anyone about anything. I’ve traveled to more than 12 countries in my life and I absolutely love meeting people from different cultures, backgrounds, and belief systems. I learn so much about what it really means to be human and what really matters in the grand scheme of things. I’m very open to people and I’ve learned that in order to truly enjoy life, you must have patience. I’ve learned to let life flow and trust the process. I’m friendly and always open to making new friends.

Shy: With your recent rise to stardom, how would you feel about your modeling being endorsed?

I wouldn’t mind that at all. I love modeling because it allows you to evoke different emotions within the viewer. They say a picture tells 1,000 words and I truly see that play out in modeling shoots and photos. I can almost look at a photo and feel the intensity of emotion from the model, if the expression reveals it. I love that aspect of it. Being able to look at a photo and derive an interpretation from it- in this sense, it’s exactly like abstract art.

Shy: Do you have any limits in terms of wardrobe when you model?

I would model any kind of clothing because I love fashion. As long as the style or vision behind it makes sense, I’m open to modeling different types of clothing pieces. I think haute couture and avant-garde type of clothing is very distinctive and compelling.

Shy: Any interest in acting? What kind of movies and TV shows would you most like to star in? What are your favorites?

I would love to act! In high school, I actually won a medal for acting out 5 different people in an NAACP ACT-SO competition. I was thrilled. I would love to star in action, horror, and thriller movies. I love psychological films such as “Law abiding citizen”. I also would love to star in TV series like Suits, White Collar, or Criminal Minds.

Shy: You’re passionate about the environment and clean energy and want to eventually develop an energy company geared towards third world countries. Is there anyone in the industry you find interesting and would like to work with in the future?

This is a great question. I’ve always admired Elon Musk for his innovation in regards to Tesla vehicles and being the chairman of SolarCity. I actually worked for SolarCity shortly after I graduated college in 2014 and was a field energy consultant. I learned a great deal about renewables and energy efficiency. If my dream energy company were to take off, Elon is someone I’d want to get advice from.

Shy: Thanks for having this talk with shy hope to talk again soon.

The pleasure is all mine. Thanks for having me too.
