Fantasia Barrino alleges that an Airbnb host engaged in racial profiling against her and her family
Fantasia Barrino recently took to social media to expose a distressing encounter with an Airbnb host, alleging racial profiling against her and her family. According to Barrino, the host abruptly demanded their departure at midnight, accusing them of hosting a loud party.
In her candid Instagram post, the “Color Purple” star detailed the incident, emphasizing that the reserved number of guests matched those who spent the night. Barrino pointed out the property’s history of hosting events, evident from wall sayings, leftover party supplies, and amenities like an outdoor fire pit and jacuzzi.
Expressing her belief that the mistreatment was racially motivated, Barrino shared her disappointment, particularly as she had planned a special party for her son. The Grammy Award winner’s account prompted a response from Airbnb’s help account, asserting the company’s commitment against discrimination and urging her to provide booking details for further investigation.
Barrino elaborated on her experience, sharing images of the event for her son and emphasizing the lack of empathy in the host’s actions. Despite the freezing rain, she and her family left the property at 6 a.m., highlighting the ordeal faced by a diverse group of children present at the gathering.
This incident adds a troubling note to Barrino’s otherwise busy schedule promoting “The Color Purple,” a film in which she plays a significant role. The Grammy winner explained her decision to reprise the character of Celie, underscoring the director’s innovative approach and her desire to inspire her daughter through Celie’s transformative journey.
