Do you ever have those days where you just feel like your brain has totally taken a vacation?

Or found yourself wondering why you’re having trouble remembering the names of your pet fish? Chances are ladies, your cranial crisis may be diet related. Apparently, certain foods promote effective neural activity, and eating right can help improve things like memory and concentration. In an effort to be incredibly helpful, here’s a list I’ve compiled of 7 foods to make you smarter…

1. Oily Fish
I know that name sounds kind of gross girls, but I promise it’s not as bad as all that. Trout and salmon are examples of oily fish, and not only do they taste great but they’re rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which facilitate super-effective neurochemical processes.

2. Avocados
This super versatile vegetable is fantastic in everything from sushi to salad to bacon sandwiches (!) and it’s full of essential fats into the bargain. Also rich in Omega 3, avocado is tasty, packed with vitamins and fantastic food for thought. And spicy guacamole is a great way to enjoy a summer-fun food any time of year.

3. Starchy Veg
Vegetables like carrots, pumpkin and squash are great brain snacks. They’re chock-a-block with nutrients and a healthy source of carbohydrates, giving you all the energy you need to stay alert. Alertness without the tumble after a serving of caffeine? Fantastic!

4. Nuts
Nuts are an all-round smart choice of snack. They contain lots of healthy essential oils and complex carbohydrates that will help sustain energy levels. They’re also rich in Vitamin E which promotes sharp cognitive function.

5. Seeds
Flax, sesame and sunflower seeds are rich in the same oils and fats found in fish and nuts. They also have a healthy, high Vitamin E content, and contain antioxidants which help to fight stress. Girls, if you’re thinking seeds might be a little hard to work into your diet, simply sprinkle them on a salad or choose a whole-wheat sesame bread next time you’re making a sandwich.

6. Coffee
Ladies, it’s true! Coffee really does kick-start those brainwaves and also contains fibre which is actually good for your heart. If you take yours with added sugar; beware! The caffeine and glucose combination will give you a temporary high, but ultimately you’ll crash into lethargy worse than it was to begin with.

7. Garlic
Fresh garlic is great for you body, if not for your breath. It contains a ton of fibre to help strengthen up your cardiovascular system, which in turn benefits the functionality of the brain. It also packed with antioxidants, and makes pizza taste amazing into the bargain! Be wary of eating it on a first date, but feel free to indugle any other time you like!

Got any tips of your own ladies? Do you believe foods can affect brain function, and if, which foods are they? Let us know what you think; we’d love to hear from you …
