Lots of things can affect your beauty and your looks, some positively and many negatively.

There are so many bad beauty habits out there, and some of them I didn’t even know were bad. That’s the worst – doing something wrong without even knowing it. Fortunately, checking out the following bad habits that can affect your beauty will give you a head’s up on a lot of these mistakes.

1. Too Much Foundation
If you put your foundation on too thick, you can actually make yourself look much older than you really are. For one thing, it gets caked into any lines or wrinkles, and makes them more pronounced. You can avoid that by pressing a sponge onto the areas where you have lines after applying your foundation, because it will absorb the excess makeup.

2. Too Much Concealer
This is another problem: putting too much concealer on any dark circles. I know this is tempting, because I’ve been guilty of it myself, but it’s actually the worst thing you can do. Your concealer only needs to go on the areas of skin under your eyes that are dark, and you should use a brush to make sure it’s evenly applied.

3. Bad News Blush
I know that the rules say blush is supposed to be applied to the apples of the cheeks, but sometimes that’s the worst thing you can do. If you’re skin isn’t as tight as it once was, if it’s lost some of its elasticity, then blush on the apples of your cheeks can actually draw attention to that fact. Instead, try putting it on your cheekbones’ highest points, keeping well away from your nose, and brush upward. That should do the trick.

4. Vice-Related Vicious Cycles
Naturally, there are certain habits that aren’t related to makeup that can really adversely affect your beauty. Not drinking water or eating healthy foods, not exercising, not moisturizing or wearing sunscreen, smoking, and drinking are all bad habits you need to avoid. Any one of these can age your skin and make you look far older than you actually are.

5. Mascara Mistakes
If you have crow’s feet, it’s natural and nothing to be ashamed of; in fact, I don’t even think that should be a term anymore. No lines that you get from actually having expressions can be that bad. Still, if you don’t want to call attention to them, then you should avoid putting mascara on your lower eyelashes. Sometimes, in fact, you should just curl your upper lashes and leave it at that.

6. Over Exfoliating
Exfoliating is a good thing – until you take it too far. If you exfoliate too much, your skin can end up dried out and flaky, which will look awful when you try to put on makeup. Worse, if you aren’t careful about the other skin care products you use, you can wind up with irritated, inflamed, red skin, which really defeats the whole purpose of exfoliation.

7. Tanning
Tanning naturally affects your beauty, but many people think that’s only true if they lay out in the sun or use a tanning bed. That’s not true at all – even self tanners can affect your beauty, and definitely not for the better. Even when it’s fake, profoundly tanned skin takes away from your appearance. I’m not saying a little color is a bad thing, I’m saying you need to avoid too much. At best, you look old and tired; at worst, you start looking orange.

8. Too Much Moisturizer
When you have really dry skin, it can be tempting to pile on the moisturizer to compensate. However, if you over moisturize your skin, it’s ultimately going to end up looking greasy and oily. It will clog your pores as well, which will ultimately lead to lots of pimples and blemishes. If your skin is that dry, you might want to try a humidifier.

Like I said, there are so many things that can affect your beauty and overall look. Some things just aren’t necessary, and they need to be avoided at all costs. These bad habits that can affect your beauty are just the start. Do you know of any other habits that can make things worse?
