The happy hour mixer was Miss Wade’s first official event as Miss DC Earth, and she took the opportunity to mingle with guests, and open dialogue on her environmental platform and goals for 2017. This includes the promotion of LEED certified practices in order to minimize greenhouse emissions on the local environment, and reduce energy costs.

Miss Earth United States streamed the event live through their Facebook page, to allow persons unable to attend to see the highlights. Viewers were also able to take part in the welcoming and lively atmosphere by leaving supportive comments and interacting with each other, an experience which allowed the DC event an even wider reach.

Ashley’s platform and ambitions are inspired by her favorite quote: ‘A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.’ “I love this quote because so many people get stuck in their comfort zone instead of branching out and trying new things and finding out what they’re capable of,” says Wade. “Pageantry has really been something that had me step out of my comfort zones in so many ways – public speaking, stage presence, and sharing my story with others.” Ashley believes in the importance of educating and teaching the younger generation about the beauty and importance of protecting planet Earth.

The Miss Earth United States organization is on a mission for the young women of America to be advocates for, and speak out on issues regarding the environment, using their ‘beauty for a cause’, and promoting their messages through fashion, media, and leadership opportunities. Ashley gained the title of Miss District of Columbia Earth in late April, and will be competing for the Miss Earth United States crown this coming August.

The end of the night marked her first appearance as a success – one filled with great food, and great fun. Please join us in wishing Ashley good luck at Nationals!
