This is probably a derivative of “Communication”, but I think it bears mentioning anyway; Don’t assume that your partner knows how you feel. That goes for men or women, although I do accept that this might well be more of a necessity for women.
Logically, your partner knows that you love them. They’ve come this far, stayed this long by your side and why would they do that if they didn’t care deeply for you? But humans can’t live by logic alone. We’re not designed for that and unless your name happens to be Spock, (and let’s face it, he had his moments) it’s pretty unhealthy to live by logic alone. Your partner needs to feel that you’re loved as well. That might be as simple as saying “I love you” and making sure that there’s meaning behind those words, not just something reflexive. It might be surprising your partner with their favourite meal when they get home from work or remembering when they’re worried about something – a meeting perhaps – then calling to see how it went. It might be sitting through that truly tedious party because your partner doesn’t want to go alone. All these things are visible proof that you love your partner. Love has to be shown, not just spoken or assumed.
And if you don’t know what your partner needs, don’t just guess. Don’t ignore it either. Ask them. It isn’t a weakness not to know what your partner wants and asking shows that you think it’s important.
Fair enough, I might not be in much of a position to give out relationship advice considering I’ve only been in two serious ones, but it isn’t as though I learned nothing. Assuming can kill a relationship. Sadly, I know that from experience.
