After all, who wants to go out for dinner and movie on their own when they could go out with friends? Believe it or not, you’ll discover a brand new side of yourself when you schedule a solo date night.

There’s nothing wrong with having some alone #time and you just might find out you have a lot of fun in the process.

1. LEARN TO IGNORE WHAT OTHERS THINK
I honestly believe this is one of the best reasons to have a solo date night. Trust me, you feel awkward at first. #People will stare and they’ll wonder why you’re alone. You might eve be asked if someone’s coming to meet you. Soon you start to ignore everyone around you. You realize it doesn’t matter what they think as long as you’re having fun. It’s a lesson you’ll incorporate more and more in your life as a result.

2. TRY THINGS FOR YOURSELF
How many times have you denied yourself the joy of trying a new hobby, food or movie simply because your friends or partner didn’t want to try it with you? You don’t have to do what everyone else wants. Make a date night to do just what you want to do. You’ll be surprised at how much fun you have. Plus, you’ll feel extremely empowered and independent.

3. HELPS YOU DISCONNECT
Sometimes we get so caught in in always having to be connected and in the know that we lose track of ourselves. It’s incredible peaceful to sit down at a restaurant and read a good book or simply #people watch. Imagine going out without having to maintain a conversation or feeling the need to constantly text or check social media feeds. Being alone for a night out helps you disconnect from all the usual distractions.

4. MEET NEW PEOPLE
The idea of a solo date night means you go out alone. It doesn’t mean you can’t socialize while you’re out, though. Try a group style restaurant such as Japanese steakhouse or sit at the bar instead of a table. You’d be surprised how much you learn just by chatting with strangers. If you’re an introvert, this experience can drastically change your social skills and make you more comfortable with meeting new people.

5. PROVE YOU CAN BE ALONE
Everyday we hear about all the reasons we need to meet the love of our life right now or how we can’t possibly go through a day without posting a status update online. Going solo for a night lets you prove you can be alone without the #world ending. You honestly don’t need to have friends, family or your partner around 24/7. In fact, you are capable of having a wonderful #time when you’re alone as well.

6. ENCOURAGES YOU TO BE YOURSELF
No matter how much we try to relax when going out with friends, we always do something that’s not exactly “us.” You might dress to impress when all you want to wear is jeans and a tee. Maybe you avoid talking about your own interests because someone else doesn’t like them. Whatever it is, you don’t have to worry about it when you’re on your own. Be yourself. Wear what you like, do what you want and forget about what your friends might think.

7. LEARN TO MAKE YOUR OWN CHOICES
When it comes to making important decisions, do you make them yourself or do you ask for input from friends and family? When you go out on your own, every decision is yours to make. You don’t have to wait for input or worry how your choice affects everyone else. Believe it or not, you’ll begin to feel better about making important decisions on your own. You’ll even be more decisive when you go out with your friends again.

8. GET AWAY FROM THE NEGATIVE
Going out with friends is fun, but usually part of the night is spent talking about everyone’s problems. It’s great to get it all out, but sometimes you just need a break from hearing about everyone else’s issues. A night out alone gives you #time to relax and even think of solutions to your own problems. Trust me, a break from the negative drastically changes your outlook on your own issues.

9. BOOST SELF-ESTEEM
It takes confidence to go out solo. With everyone expecting #people to go out as a couple, group or family, it’s hard to break away from the norm. Being able to go out and do what you want without caring about who’s judging you is a major boost to your self-esteem. This boost will show in other areas of your life. With regular solo nights, your self-esteem will improve.

There’s nothing wrong with going out by yourself some times. You get the chance to do what you want without worrying about what everyone else might think. The possibilities are endless and so are the benefits. What are some of your favorite solo date night activities?
